I had another client who came in with a broken heart because her husband of 19 years had left her. Her children were deeply affected – one even was having suicidal thoughts. She was trying to stay strong for her kids, however, she couldn’t cook or clean, started smoking two packs of cigarettes, and she was even having suicidal thoughts. Both her and her son came in, and I did their session side by side.
After the session, she said, “Should I be disappointed because I was expecting a miracle?” Although her and her son looked more calm and peaceful after the session compared to when they first came in, I had to let her know that you can’t expect a miracle to happen in one session if this tension and breakup took many days or even months to build up. Healing completely will take at least three sessions, but varies for each individual.
